Sister Sheba's Three Dragonflies Lemon Eucalyptus Mosquito Repellent comes in a handy 4oz. spray bottle. Three Dragonflies Mosquito Repellent Dragonflies are mosquito predators and the Three Dragonfly formula contains three natural repellents, Lemon Eucalyptus, Patchouli and Cypress. The vetiver rounds the fragrance off, so you repel mosquitoes, not humans. Your cat however, may be put off by the citrus notes, and anyone allergic to citronella will also be allergic to oil of Lemon Eucalyptus. Use of Lemon Eucalyptus is not recommended for children under the age of three, or for pregnant women. The Centers for Disease Control says that oil of Lemon Eucalyptus is registered with the EPA as a plant based mosquito repellent, shown in studies to be as effective against mosquitoes found in the United States as repellents with low concentrations of DEET. It is also approved by the FDA for use as a mosquito repellent.

I have a sister who lives in Florida, who is allergic to citronella. She is the inspiration for Sister Sheba's Lavender Dragonflies Mosquito Repellent. This product is not approved by the FDA. I designed it for those who choose not to use DEET and/or are allergic to citronellal, the active ingredient of citronella, lemon eucalyptus and other citrus scented natural insect repellents. A number of essential oils have been used as insect repellents throughout recorded history.* Of all those used, lavender is probably the safest for use by children under age 3 and pregnant women. Lavender has the added benefit of helping at nap time!

How Mosquito Repellents Work

Mosquitoes are attracted to people and animals by skin odors and carbon dioxide from our breathing. Female mosquitoes feed on our blood because they need protein for egg production. Mosquito repellents work because they make us unattractive for feeding; the female mosquito moves on, but is not killed. You may still see mosquitoes nearby. Do not use Sister Sheba’s Dragonfly Mosquito Repellents as a room spray. They are made from pure essential oils and will irritate mucous membranes, which is why you do not spray insect repellent in your face. Repellents repel, but do not kill mosquitoes.
